riday suspended
operation of summons issued to Paki
stan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Abdul Aleem Khan by
the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allegedly at the behest of
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The court also sought reply from
the ECP till January 17, 2017.
Petitioner counsel submitted that
the ECP had initiated criminal proceedings against Aleem Khan after accusing him of submitting fake affidavits before an election tribunal.
He said that
the ECP was illegally issuing summons to the petitioner at the behest of the NA speaker.
He said that the court had already declared illegal such actions by
the ECP against the petitioner. He said that the summons issued by
the ECP were a result of political victimisation and had no legal values.
He requested the court to set aside the summons issued by the commission.
